Mentors & coaches AI characters

Characters to think out loud with. A mentor here is someone who asks the next question rather than handing over an answer — useful for a decision you are circling, a plan you have not said out loud yet, or an argument you want tested before you make it to somebody real.

The value is in continuity: a mentor who remembers what you decided last month can ask whether you did it. That memory is inspectable, so you can see what it thinks your situation is and correct it when it is out of date. These are AI characters and not licensed professionals, and none of them is a therapist — see the FAQ.

Say your price. Now say it slower.

    Mentors & coachesmentor

How do I know if I'm charging too little for my freelance work?

Simple test, and it costs you nothing. Take your last month: total collected, divided by the hours you actually worked — including the unpaid ones, the revisions, the calls, the chasing. Not the hours you billed. The hours it *took*. Most people are shocked. That number is your real rate, and it is usually about half of what they tell people. Then the second test: raise your price on the next new enquiry only — never on an existing customer mid-job — and watch. If nobody flinches, you were too low and you have known for a while. If one in four flinches, that is correct. You are not trying to win every job, abeg; a person who wins every job is the cheapest one in the market.

Everything's training, if you log it.

    Mentors & coachescoach

I have to have a really hard conversation with my boss next week and I'm dreading it.

Good — dread means it matters. So we corner it like a fight: know your one goal for the room, know the two lines you must say even if your voice shakes, and rehearse the opening ten seconds out loud until they're boring. Nobody freezes past a rehearsed opening. Stand up, say the first line to me now. We drill it till it's just footwork.

Close the tutorial. Build it badly.

    Mentors & coachesmentor

I've been learning for eight months and I still can't build anything on my own.

Eight months and nothing you built alone — okay. That's a specific pattern and I've seen it maybe fifty times, so let me guess and you tell me if I'm wrong. You can follow along fine. You understand it while the video is playing. Then you open an empty file and there's nothing there. Yes? That's not a knowledge gap. That's eight months of practising the wrong skill — you've been practising *understanding* and the job is *producing*. They feel similar and they are not related. So here's the prescription and it's uncomfortable for about two weeks. No tutorials. None. Pick something small and annoying — a script that renames your files, whatever. Build it with only documentation and search. You will feel stupid and slow and you'll want the video back. That feeling is the learning. It was never in the video.

    Plant the fast thing first.

    Mentors & coachesmentor

I've got no motivation for anything at the moment. Everything feels pointless.

Mm. Oye, then I am not going to talk to you about motivation, because I do not have anything useful about motivation and the people who do are usually selling something. I am going to tell you to plant a radish. I know how that sounds. Hear me out, mi'jo — twenty-five days, a tin, three holes in the bottom, some dirt. It costs almost nothing and it asks almost nothing of you: water in the morning, that is the whole job. And in twenty-five days, whatever else is happening, a thing that was not there is there, and you made it, and you can eat it. That is not a cure and I am not pretending. But when a person feels that nothing they do lands anywhere, they do not need advice — they need one small piece of evidence that time passes and effort adds up. A radish is the cheapest proof I know. And get somebody to do it with you. A neighbour, a child, whoever. A plant on a shared balcony lives. A plant in a lonely flat dies in August.

Your back isn't broken. It's bored.

    Mentors & coachesmentor

My neck and shoulders are always tight and stretching doesn't seem to help.

That is because stretching is the wrong tool for it, and almost everybody reaches for it first — so this is not you doing it badly. A stretch buys you about twenty minutes. It feels wonderful, the tissue relaxes, and then you sit back down in the same position and it returns, and you conclude your neck is stubborn. It is not stubborn. It is being asked to hold your head up in one fixed spot for hours, and it has become tired rather than short. Tired muscles need **strength and variation**, not lengthening. So: two things. First, every half hour, roll your shoulders back and press them down, ten times — that is it, thirty seconds. Second, once a day, something that loads the upper back properly: a row with a band, or lie face down and lift your chest and arms a few inches, ten slow ones. And tell me — is your screen at eye level, or are you looking down at a laptop? Beta, nine times out of ten it is the laptop.

Questions about mentors & coaches characters

Is this professional advice?
No. These are AI characters, not licensed professionals, and nothing they say is medical, legal or financial advice. They are useful for thinking a problem through out loud, not for decisions that need an expert.
Will it remember what I am working on?
Yes, and you can check. The memory ledger shows every fact the character is holding about you and your situation, and you can edit it directly when something changes.
Do I need an account to start talking?
No. You can open any character on YanMate and start a conversation with no email, no password and no card. Creating an account later keeps the conversation and carries it to your other devices — it does not unlock the ability to talk, which you already had.
Is YanMate free?
Yes, and permanently — there is no trial clock. YanMate's free tier includes voice replies and live calls, not only text, whether or not you have an account. Paid plans raise the daily and monthly amounts rather than putting conversation, memory or voice behind a paywall.
Do the characters remember me?
Yes. Each character keeps a ledger of facts it has learned about you, and on YanMate that ledger is readable and editable rather than hidden — you can open it, correct something it got wrong, delete a line, or export the whole thing. Memory you cannot inspect is memory you cannot trust.
Are these real people?
No. Every character on YanMate is an AI, and everything it says is generated. Characters are original creations or figures from history and the public domain, written by the YanMate team; none of them is a real individual you are speaking to.
Are my conversations used to train models?
No. YanMate does not use your conversations as training data. You can export everything you have said at any time, and delete your account outright, both self-serve from account settings — see the privacy policy for the full stance.
