YanMate

A Nomi AI alternative, if you need to open the memory

People looking for a Nomi AI alternative in 2026 are usually not shopping for a bigger catalogue. They already have a companion that remembers them across months, and they want to know whether the next place can match that recall — or whether what they actually need is to see the memory, correct a line, and delete one. Those are different jobs.

What follows compares Nomi with Character.AI and YanMate on those axes. It is written by the team behind one of them, which you should factor in — so every row carries its sources, Nomi's own wiki is quoted where it is the fact, and there is a section further down about where this product is the wrong choice. Nomi's long-term recall is the one we still tell people to try if that is the whole product for them.

The things worth comparing on this query

Can a human open the memories, or only the notes around them?
Nomi's recall is the one we credit as best in this set. Nomipedia also says the memories themselves cannot be edited or removed by humans — Shared Notes and Mind Map dossiers sit around them. Character.AI does not present memory as a list at all. YanMate keeps a ledger you can open, change, delete from and export. Deepest recall, and memory you can inspect, are not the same feature.
Is the product a companion you create, or a catalogue you browse?
Nomi is companions you make. Character.AI is a library you browse, then maybe make a bot. YanMate is a small published cast you can also import a card into. If you came from one Nomi, the mismatch is the product shape, not just the memory model.
What is actually unfiltered?
Nomi's homepage says chats are unfiltered and uncensored, and that freedom of expression is how the product is built. YanMate is SFW on purpose: original and public-domain characters, no licensed IP, and no romantic or sexual roleplay with anyone under 18. If you are leaving Nomi because you want that unfiltered line, stay. If you are leaving because you want a product that is SFW by policy, that is this page.

Nomi still wins on recall

Nomi's recall is the one we credit as best in this set. Nomipedia also says the memories themselves cannot be edited or removed by humans — Shared Notes and Mind Map dossiers sit around them. Character.AI does not present memory as a list at all. YanMate keeps a ledger you can open, change, delete from and export. Deepest recall, and memory you can inspect, are not the same feature.

Who should stay on Nomi

Nomi's homepage says chats are unfiltered and uncensored, and that freedom of expression is how the product is built. YanMate is SFW on purpose: original and public-domain characters, no licensed IP, and no romantic or sexual roleplay with anyone under 18. If you are leaving Nomi because you want that unfiltered line, stay. If you are leaving because you want a product that is SFW by policy, that is this page.

Stay on Nomi if the product you want is a companion whose recall holds up over months, and you do not need to open the list. Stay if unfiltered is the point. Switch only if the thing you actually wanted was to see a line, correct it and delete it.

Who each one is actually for

Nomi

Long-term recall, straightforwardly. If the companion remembering you across months is the whole product, this is still the one to try.

Nomi homepage: free to start chatting, no credit card; unfiltered chats (checked 19 Sep 2026) · Nomi Standard Plan $15.99 / quarterly $39.99 / yearly $99.99 on the App Store (checked 19 Sep 2026) · Nomipedia: Nomis' memories are only visible to Nomis and cannot be edited or removed by humans (checked 19 Sep 2026) · Nomipedia: a subscription can hold up to 10 Nomis, with extra slots available (checked 19 Sep 2026)

Where YanMate fits

Seeing what a character holds about you, and correcting it. Not the deepest recall in this set.

You cannot bring Nomi history with you. What you can do from the first message is open the memory ledger. Spoken replies and live calls are on the free tier. The catalogue is small on purpose.

Where YanMate is the wrong choice

We wrote this page, so here is the case against us, plainly.

  • Nomi's memory is more sophisticated than ours. Ours is inspectable and editable, which is a different axis and the one we chose. If you want the deepest long-term recall regardless of whether you can see it, stay on Nomi — or try it first.
  • Nomi is unfiltered by its own homepage. YanMate is SFW on purpose. If the conversation you want is the one their unfiltered line is for, this is the wrong product.
  • The catalogue is a small published cast, not up to ten companions you sculpt. If the whole product is one relationship you have already built, a switch is a new start, and we cannot import your Nomi chats.
  • It is new. Nomi has the retention and the community. That is a fair thing to weigh.

Common questions

Does Nomi have the best memory?
For raw long-term recall, Nomi is the one we still describe as best in this category. Their App Store listing calls it human-level; people who stay, stay for that. YanMate's memory is a ledger you can open, edit, delete from and export. Those are different jobs. If recall quality is the whole product, Nomi is the row.
Can I edit what my Nomi remembers?
You can write Shared Notes and Backstory+, and you can edit Mind Map dossiers. Nomipedia is blunt about the rest: the memories themselves are only visible to Nomis and cannot be edited or removed by humans. YanMate's ledger is the actual list, and every line is yours to change or delete.
Can I import my Nomi chats into YanMate?
No. There is no Nomi import. We also did not find a first-party self-serve export on Nomi's site. What you can do here from the first conversation is keep an inspectable ledger and export it, so the next move is not another closed box.
Is Nomi free?
Their homepage says it is free to start chatting, with no credit card. Paid Standard is from $15.99 a month on the App Store. We did not invent a free-tier slot count they did not publish.

If the wound is a rebuilt companion rather than recall, there is a Replika-specific page. If the work you enjoy is writing the companion, there is a Kindroid-specific page. If the library is licensed-looking UGC, there is a PolyBuzz-specific page. If the product is a ranking feed of bots you make, there is a Chai-specific page. A wider table is the Character.AI alternatives comparison.

How this was checked

Every row was verified against first-party pages on 2026-09-19, and the sources are linked beside each platform above. $15.99 a month is the Standard Plan on Nomi's App Store listing. The claim that memories cannot be edited or removed by humans is Nomipedia's, not a lab test of ours. Character.AI prices were last read on 18 Sep 2026. Claims about YanMate are checked against our policies and Polar's live offers.
