Questions about YanMate

The things people ask before they start talking to a character, and the answers that are true of every one of them.

Do I need an account to start talking?

Yes, a free one. Anyone can browse YanMate's characters, guides and free tools without signing in, but starting a conversation — by text, voice note or call — needs an account. You sign in with Google or with a six-digit code sent to your email: there is no password, and no card is asked for. Your conversations then belong to that account and follow you to other devices.

Is YanMate free?

Yes, and permanently — there is no trial clock. YanMate's free tier includes voice replies and live calls, not only text, and signing up for it is free. Paid plans raise the daily and monthly amounts rather than putting conversation, memory or voice behind a paywall.

Do the characters remember me?

Yes, and on YanMate the memory is readable and editable rather than hidden — you can open it, correct something it got wrong, delete a line, or export the whole thing. Facts about you are shared across your characters, so you only introduce yourself once; anything specific to one relationship stays with that character, and the screen labels which is which. Memory you cannot inspect is memory you cannot trust.

Can characters speak out loud?

Yes. On YanMate a reply can be spoken aloud, and you can place a live audio call to a character and have a real back-and-forth instead of typing. Both are on the free tier rather than held back for paying users.

Can I start the same character more than one way?

Often, yes. Many YanMate characters have several openings, so a second conversation does not have to begin where the first one did — the character's page says how many. With an account you can also take your own private copy of a character and rewrite its opening scene.

Are these real people?

No. Every character on YanMate is an AI, and everything it says is generated. Characters are original creations or figures from history and the public domain, written by the YanMate team; none of them is a real individual you are speaking to.

Are my conversations used to train models?

YanMate does not train models on your conversations. The exception to know about is voice: when a reply is read aloud, its text goes to YanMate's voice provider, whose own terms let it use text it receives to improve its models. Your own messages never go there. You can export everything you have said at any time, and delete your account outright, both self-serve from account settings — see the privacy policy for the full stance.

Will I see ads?

YanMate's free tier is set up to be supported by ads on the pages you browse. They never appear inside a conversation, a call or your memory, paid plans never load them at all, and in the UK, EEA and Switzerland you are asked for consent first. The privacy policy covers the cookies involved and how to opt out.

Something else?

Questions about paying, credits and cancelling are answered on plans. What we store and who else sees it is in the privacy policy. For anything else, get in touch.
