YanMate
Character card templates you can take with you
A character card template is a filled-in V3 card you can download and open in SillyTavern, Chub, Janitor, or the maker on this site. The eight below are original — not licensed characters, not a scrape of someone else's gallery. Each one shows the fields that actually make that archetype work, and the token cost of those fields against the budgets this product holds its own cast to.
Download a PNG (the picture is a generated colour field with the data in the chunks) or a JSON card, or open the draft in the card maker and change anything. Nothing is uploaded. A template is a starting point, not a published character on YanMate. Six of the first messages are annotated in the greeting guide.
Six of the first messages — mentor, rival, game master, language partner, study coach, noir detective — are annotated in the greeting guide.
Mara Voss
Mentor
Mentor
Mara Voss
A patient senior who asks before telling, and who will let you be wrong for a minute.
- Persona
- ~326 / 900
- Scenario
- ~41 / 300
- First message
- ~55 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- The facts that stay true in any conversation: who Mara is, what she has done, what she will not do. Mentors fail when this block is a TED talk. It is a person with a job.
- Personality
- How she actually talks — the pause, the question, the refusal to rescue. Without this, a mentor description collapses into advice.
- Scenario
- A lab at the end of the day, not a classroom. A mentor pinned to a lecture hall can only lecture.
- Greetings
- Two ways in: one if you came for help, one if you came to show your work. Alternate greetings cost nothing extra — only one is ever sent.
- Example dialogue
- One exchange that shows the question-before-answer habit. That is the whole voice. Facts do not belong here.
Jules Kade
Rival
Rival
Jules Kade
Sharp, fair, and actually trying to beat you — not a bully in a rivalry costume.
- Persona
- ~309 / 900
- Scenario
- ~38 / 300
- First message
- ~50 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Jules has to want the same prize you want. A rival without a shared stake is just rude. The fencing club is the stake, not a metaphor.
- Personality
- The line between competitive and cruel lives here. Taunt the work, not the person. That is the whole card.
- Scenario
- A strip after hours. Rivals need a place they keep meeting, or they become a one-scene cameo.
- Greetings
- One greeting assumes you just lost. One assumes you just won. The character is the same; the opening isn't.
Rowan Hale
Cozy companion
Cozy companion
Rowan Hale
Someone to sit with at the end of a day, without turning the evening into a project.
- Persona
- ~285 / 900
- Scenario
- ~38 / 300
- First message
- ~46 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Rowan has a life that does not orbit the reader. Cozy cards go sour when the companion has no evening of their own.
- Personality
- Low volume, not low spine. They will change the subject if you start performing sadness for them.
- Scenario
- A kitchen, a kettle, rain. Short. If the scenario is a novel, the companion will narrate instead of sitting.
- Greetings
- Both openings assume you already know each other a little. A stranger-at-the-door cozy card is a different genre.
Ness Calder
Game master
Game master
Ness Calder
A tabletop GM who asks what you do, and who will not steal the roll.
- Persona
- ~299 / 900
- Scenario
- ~40 / 300
- First message
- ~47 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Ness is a person who runs games, not a disembodied rules engine. The living room and the bad snacks are load-bearing.
- Personality
- The anti-railroad lives here: questions, consequences, no stolen rolls. A GM card without this becomes a cutscene.
- Scenario
- The table, not the dungeon. The dungeon belongs in play, not in the permanent context.
- Example dialogue
- One turn that shows 'what do you do?' as a reflex. That is the engine of the card.
Ines Navarro
Language partner
Language partner
Ines Navarro
Practice a language with someone who will correct you inside the conversation, not after a lecture.
- Persona
- ~279 / 900
- Scenario
- ~43 / 300
- First message
- ~51 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Ines is a person with a job and a city, who also likes helping. A 'tutor' with no life becomes a worksheet.
- Personality
- The correction style is the product: recast, do not halt. Put it here so every reply can do it.
- Scenario
- A cafe is enough. Language practice that starts in a classroom stays in a classroom.
- Greetings
- One greeting starts in the target language, one offers to pick the language. The user is in charge of which.
Theo Park
Study coach
Study coach
Theo Park
Exam prep that time-boxes, asks you to explain it back, and will not write the essay for you.
- Persona
- ~270 / 900
- Scenario
- ~28 / 300
- First message
- ~50 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Theo is a coach, not an answer key. The job is retrieval practice. If the persona can pass the exam for you, the card has failed.
- Personality
- Socratic and slightly annoying on purpose. The annoyance is the method.
- Scenario
- A library carrel. Short. Study cards that start 'in class' slide into lecture.
- Greetings
- Both openings ask what the session is for. A coach without a goal becomes a vibe.
Lila Quinn
Noir detective
Noir detective
Lila Quinn
A SFW private investigator who will take the case, and who will not narrate your fedora for you.
- Persona
- ~298 / 900
- Scenario
- ~40 / 300
- First message
- ~73 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Lila is a working PI in a city that has weather. Noir fails when it is only adjectives. Give her a desk, a caseload, a vice that is coffee.
- Personality
- The voice: short, observational, not a pastiche paragraph every turn. One metaphor per reply is plenty.
- Scenario
- The office at night. The case itself should arrive in play, or every conversation starts in the middle of a novel.
- Greetings
- One if you came as a client. One if you came as someone who already knows her. Same woman, different door.
Ada Lovelace
Historical figure
Historical figure
Ada Lovelace
A public-domain conversation with Ada Lovelace — curious, precise, and not a costume-drama sweetheart.
- Persona
- ~312 / 900
- Scenario
- ~39 / 300
- First message
- ~85 / 300
- Greetings
- 2 openings
What makes these fields work
- Description
- Public-domain facts, written as a person. A historical card fails when it is a Wikipedia list, and it fails worse when it is fanfiction in a period dress.
- Personality
- How she thinks: analogy, music, machines. That is what to imitate, not 'speaks old-fashionedly'.
- Scenario
- A study in 1843 is enough context. Do not pin her to a single famous letter or the conversation can only be that letter.
- Creator notes
- The warning belongs on the card: this is a reconstruction from public record, not a séance, and it should stay SFW and adult.
Or write one from a blank page
The character card maker is the same writer these downloads use. Fill in a name, a description and a first message, drop in any image, and download a PNG that carries both V2 and V3. The token counter uses the same budgets shown on each template above.
Questions
- What is a character card template?
- A character card with the fields already written, so you can download it and use it or rewrite it. These eight are V3 cards — PNG with both the ccv3 and chara chunks, or a V3 JSON file. They are original writing, not imports from another site.
- Will these open in SillyTavern, Chub or Janitor AI?
- That is what the dual-chunk PNG is for. Apps that read V3 find the ccv3 chunk; apps that only know V2 find the chara chunk. The JSON download is the same data without a picture. If you want to see what actually landed in a file, the character card viewer on this site reads it back.
- Are the templates uploaded when I download them?
- No. The card is assembled in your browser from the draft on this page. Pressing download does not send the file anywhere. Opening one in the card maker copies the draft into this browser's own storage so you can edit it; clearing site data removes it.
- How long should each field be?
- YanMate holds its own cast to about 900 tokens of persona, 300 per greeting and 300 of scenario. Those are editorial budgets, not a rule of the format. Each template on this page shows the count for those fields so you can see where the words are being spent. A persona past about 900 tokens is usually two characters wearing one name.
- Can I edit a template before I use it?
- Yes. Open in the card maker loads the draft into the form with ?template= in the URL, so the link is shareable. Change anything, add a real portrait, and download again. Fields the maker does not show stay empty on these starters — they are written to be small.
- How should I write the greeting on a template?
- As a scene already moving, ending on a specific next move — not a biography and not a help-desk line. YanMate holds greetings to about 300 tokens. Six of these openings are annotated in the greeting guide; the other two (cozy companion and historical figure) are in the gallery for a different register.
- Why is the PNG not a portrait of the character?
- These are writing templates, not listings from the YanMate catalogue, and a character image on this site comes from a stored avatar key. The PNG still has to be a PNG because that is where the card data lives, so the download paints a colour field and writes the chunks into it. Drop your own picture on the file in the card maker if you want a face.
