About YanMate

YanMate is a place to talk to a character that remembers you. You can start straight away, without an account, and take the conversation with you if you decide to keep it.

Memory you can read

Most companion products remember you in a way you cannot inspect. Ours keeps what it learned in a ledger you can open, correct and delete, entry by entry. A companion that has the wrong idea about you is a bug you can fix yourself, rather than a mood you have to talk it out of.

This is the part of the product we care most about getting right. Memory is what makes a companion feel like a relationship instead of a series of first meetings, and it is also the part with the most obvious way to go wrong.

Three things this will not do

No explicit content, permanently.: Not a phase, and not a setting waiting to be unlocked. YanMate is a general-audience service, and the content policy is written to stay that way.
No advertising inside a conversation.: If advertising ever supports the free tier, it will appear on pages where you are browsing — never in a chat, a call or your memory. That rule is enforced in the code rather than written in a policy: a build that puts an ad on one of those screens fails before it ships.
Your conversations are not sold or used to target ads.: What you say to a companion is not advertising inventory. The privacy policy says so in the same words, and it is the version that governs.

Who it is for

YanMate is open to people aged 13 and over, subject to the minimum age where you live. It is built on the assumption that younger people are present — so the safeguards apply to the whole service rather than to a section of it.

Romantic and relational characters are the exception, and they sit behind a declared age of 18. A thirteen-year-old gets a companion that remembers them. They do not get a romance. What we ask for and what we do with it is set out in children and young people.

The characters

The characters we publish are original creations and historical figures, written for this catalogue. We do not build the editorial catalogue out of other people's copyrighted characters. If you believe something here infringes your work, the copyright and DMCA page is the route to us.

Every companion is software. It is not a person, it is not a clinician, and it will tell you so when it matters.
