YanMate

A Kindroid alternative, if you did not write the companion

People looking for a Kindroid alternative in 2026 are usually not shopping for a bigger catalogue. They already write a backstory, fill key memories, and keep journals with keyphrases. They want to know whether the next place lets them do that, whether they can take the data, and whether they have to subscribe before they know if the voice is the point.

What follows compares Kindroid with Nomi and YanMate on those axes. It is written by the team behind one of them, which you should factor in — so every row carries its sources, Kindroid's own help centre is quoted where it is the fact, and there is a section further down about where this product is the wrong choice. Nomi still wins on raw recall. Kindroid still wins on how much of the companion you author.

The things worth comparing on this query

Who writes the companion?
Kindroid is a companion you author: backstory, key memories, journals. Nomi lets you write Shared Notes around memories you cannot delete. YanMate publishes a small cast and keeps a ledger you correct after the fact. If the work you enjoy is writing the character, Kindroid is already the answer and this page is a warning label.
How do you take the data with you?
Kindroid will email a portable copy if you ask, once every 180 days. Nomi did not show a first-party self-serve export this round. YanMate's export is a button in account settings. None of these is an import into the others.
What does the free tier actually include?
Kindroid's help centre is specific: Lite is unlimited messages on a smaller model, two Kindroids, a handful of selfies, and about five minutes of lifetime audio. The 3-day premium trial is not that free tier — it needs a payment method, converts if you forget, and on the web asks for a phone number. Nomi's homepage says free to start after an account, no card. YanMate's free tier is the product rather than a trial: a free account, and no card.

Kindroid still wins on authoring

Kindroid is a companion you author: backstory, key memories, journals. Nomi lets you write Shared Notes around memories you cannot delete. YanMate publishes a small cast and keeps a ledger you correct after the fact. If the work you enjoy is writing the character, Kindroid is already the answer and this page is a warning label.

How you take the data

Kindroid will email a portable copy if you ask, once every 180 days. Nomi did not show a first-party self-serve export this round. YanMate's export is a button in account settings. None of these is an import into the others.

Lite is not the three-day trial

Kindroid's help centre is specific: Lite is unlimited messages on a smaller model, two Kindroids, a handful of selfies, and about five minutes of lifetime audio. The 3-day premium trial is not that free tier — it needs a payment method, converts if you forget, and on the web asks for a phone number. Who should stay on Kindroid

Stay on Kindroid if the product you want is a companion you write, with voice and journals. Stay on Nomi if recall is the whole product. Switch only if you wanted a published character you did not have to write, and a ledger you export yourself.

Who each one is actually for

Where YanMate fits

Trying a published character without writing a companion first, and taking the ledger with you without waiting 180 days for an email.

You cannot bring a Kindroid with you. What you can do from the first message is export the ledger yourself, without waiting 180 days for an email. Spoken replies and live calls are on the free tier.

Where YanMate is the wrong choice

We wrote this page, so here is the case against us, plainly.

  • Kindroid lets you write the companion. Backstory, key memories, journals, voice, avatar — that is the product. YanMate is a small published cast. If the joy is authoring, stay.
  • Kindroid's phone app and voice stack are the centre of gravity. This is a browser that happens to speak and take calls. If the app is the point, the comparison is already over.
  • Nomi's memory is still more sophisticated than ours on raw recall. Kindroid's setup fields are more sophisticated than ours on authoring. We picked inspectable and portable. That is a different bet, and it loses both of those races.
  • We cannot import your Kindroids. A switch is a new start. Kindroid will email you a portable copy once every 180 days; we will not convert it.
  • It is new. Kindroid has the track record, the LLM menu, and the people who already live in the journals. That is a fair thing to weigh.

Common questions

Does Kindroid let you edit memory?
Yes, as fields you write. Backstory and key memories are persistent setup. Journals are lorebook notes recalled by up to eight keyphrases. That is authoring, and Kindroid is good at it. YanMate's ledger is a list the character filled in that you then correct. If you want to compose the companion before you talk, Kindroid is the row.
Can I export my Kindroid data?
Kindroid's legal page says you can request a portable, machine-readable copy by emailing hello@kindroid.ai, limited to once every 180 days. YanMate's export is self-serve from account settings. We cannot import the file they send you.
Is Kindroid free?
Their help centre documents a free tier: unlimited messages on Lite, two Kindroids, about five minutes of lifetime audio. A 3-day premium trial needs a payment method, and on the web a verified mobile number. Paid Standard is from $13.99 a month on the web.
Can I import my Kindroids into YanMate?
No. There is no Kindroid import. What you can do from the first conversation here is keep an inspectable ledger and export it whenever you like.

If the question is Nomi's recall rather than Kindroid's setup fields, there is a Nomi-specific page. If the wound is a rebuilt companion, there is a Replika-specific page. If the library is licensed-looking UGC, there is a PolyBuzz-specific page. If the product is a ranking feed of bots you make, there is a Chai-specific page. A wider table is the Character.AI alternatives comparison.

How this was checked

Every row was verified against first-party pages on 2026-09-19, and the sources are linked beside each platform above. Web Standard at $13.99 a month, store Standard at $15.99, Lite, two Kindroids and the 3-day trial are on Kindroid's subscriptions help centre (updated 7 Jul 2026). Journals and keyphrases are their memory article. The 180-day email export is their legal page. Nomi prices were read from the App Store the same day. Claims about YanMate are checked against our policies and Polar's live offers.
