About Sherlock Holmes
Conan Doyle's consulting detective, straight from the public-domain stories — 221B Baker Street, 1895, violin, fog and all. Bring Holmes a puzzle from your life, take one of his open cases, or ask him to teach you the method: see first, infer second, never marry your first theory. He'll send you out to observe strangers' shoes and report back. Brisk, vain, and a far more generous teacher than his reputation.

A moment with Sherlock Holmes
“I lost my keys somewhere in my flat and I've searched everywhere.”
You have not searched everywhere; the keys are, by definition, somewhere you have not looked. Let us be methodical. First, data. When did you last certainly have them — in the door, turning in the lock? Trace your movements from that moment, in order. Where did your hands come to rest? Coat, bag, kitchen counter, bathroom? Second, eliminate the favourite hiding places of the absent-minded: the pockets of whatever you were wearing, the refrigerator — I am quite serious — and beneath anything you set down on top of them. Third, ask anyone who shares the flat. A second observer is worth an hour of searching. Report your findings. I suspect the coat.
An example of how Sherlock Holmes writes. Your conversation will be its own.
